 Forecast Discussion

Solar Activity

.24 hr Summary...
Solar activity was very low. Region 2670 (S07W85, Hsx/alpha) remained
quiet and stable over the past 24 hours. No Earth-directed CMEs were
observed in available coronagraph imagery.

.Forecast...
Solar activity is expected to continue at very low levels over the next
three days (14-16 Aug).

Energetic Particle

.24 hr Summary...
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux was at normal to moderate levels
and the greater than 10 MeV proton flux was steady at background levels.

.Forecast...
The greater than 2 MeV electron flux is expected to be at normal to
high levels on days one through three (14-16 Aug) following elevated
solar wind speeds from the CH HSS. The greater than 10 MeV proton flux
is expected to persist at background levels throughout the forecast
period.

Solar Wind

.24 hr Summary...
Solar wind parameters, as measured by the DSCOVR spacecraft, continued
to indicate the weak influence of a negative polarity CH HSS. Total
magnetic field strength was fairly steady at 4-6 nT. The Bz component
was variable between +/-5 nT. Solar wind speeds were mostly between
550-600 km/s. Phi angle was oriented in a negative sector.

.Forecast...
A gradual decrease in solar wind speeds will likely be observed through
day one (14 Aug) and into nominal conditions on day two (15 Aug) as CH
HSS influences wanes. Another enhancement is expected late on day three
(16 Aug) due to the beginning effects of a CIR followed by a recurrent,
polar connected, positive polarity CH HSS.

Geospace

.24 hr Summary...
The geomagnetic field was quiet.

.Forecast...
The geomagnetic field is expected to be mostly quiet on days one and two
(14-15 Aug) with an isolated unsettled period possible on day one.
Unsettled conditions are expected late on day three (16 Aug) due to the
arrival of a CIR and the onset of a recurrent polar connected, positive
polarity CH HSS.
