Largest volcanic region on Earth with 91 volcanoes found under Antarctica

A huge volcanic region comprising more than 91 volcanoes has been found under Antarctic ice.

With the volcanic peak ranging from 100m to 3,850m in height, this is the largest volcanic region on Earth.

With its 91 volcanoes under Antarctica ice, geologists say the newly discovered volcanic range has similarities to east Africa’s volcanic ridge, currently acknowledged to be the densest concentration of volcanoes in the world.
The 91 volcanic peaks situated in the West Antarctic Rift system were discovered during a remote survey made by researchers from the University of Edinburgh. But it is still unknown if the volcanoes are active.
Antarctica remains among the least studied areas of the globe. Maybe we will soon discover what is the cause of the mysterious wave anomalies coming from the icy continent.
