A powerful 6.5R event came in New Zealand Region today.
The quake, which struck just after 7pm, was centred more than 200 kilometres offshore from New Zealand past Auckland Islands.
The earthquake was 34 kilometres deep, 190 km south-west of Snare's Island.
Civil Defence NZ has said there was no tsunami threat to New Zealand.
No injuries or damage have been reported, but the earthquake was felt widely across the lower South Island
