An outbreak of severe thunderstorms is
expected across parts of the southern and central Plains Thursday
afternoon (local time, May 18, 2017) and Thursday evening through the
overnight hours.
An outbreak of severe thunderstorms with tornadoes, very large hail and wind damage is expected to develop across parts of the southern and central Plains from this afternoon into this evening and overnight, NOAA Storm Prediction Center warns.
Locations
Large hail, tornadoes and wind damage also will be possible outside of these areas across parts of the southern and central Plains.
Damaging gusts and sporadic hail also are expected across parts of the lower Great Lakes region to western New England this afternoon and early evening.
A tornado watch means that conditions are favorable for tornadoes to form during the next several hours. If a tornado warning is issued for your area, move to a place of safety, ideally in a basement or interior room on the lowest floor of a sturdy building.
