MANILA — The electric supply reserve in Luzon has become slightly thinner due to the twin earthquakes in Batangas on Saturday.
The Department of Energy (DOE) said some power facilities have been affected by the quake.
Among the affected plants are Avion Unit 2, San Lorenzo Units 1 and 2, Ilijan B and San Gabriel.
“Bago
tayo nagkaroon ng lindol, meron tayong sapat na supply… pero ngayon
naapektuhan tayo ng lampas ng 1,600 MW dahil dun sa lindol mismo (Before
the earthquake, we had enough supply… but now we are down by over 1,600
MW due to the quake),” DOE spokesperson Usec. Wimpy Fuentebella said.
However, the Department of Energy assures that it is doing its part to remedy the problem.
To
augment power supply, the DOE instructed the operation of Malaya Units 1
and 2 other thermal power plants to address the possible insufficiency
in power supply especially in areas struck by the earthquake.
“Pinag-utos ni Secretary Cusi na mapabilis at i-ensure ang safety ng pag-restore ng power sa mg aapektadong earthquake (Secretary Cusi has ordered the prompt and safe restoration of power facilities affected by the earthquake),“ Usec. Fuentebella said.
Meanwhile,
the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP)on Monday
lowered a red alert status to yellow after power supply slightly
increased.
For now, the available supply capacity is at 9,772 megawatts per hour. The peak demand is at 9, 351 megawatts.
Fuentebella said the Luzon grid may remain on yellow alert until tomorrow.https://sg.news.yahoo.com/batangas-twin-earthquakes-affect-electric-000024021.html
