An earthquake with a preliminary estimated magnitude of 5.3
rocked the Chiba prefecture in eastern Japan at 11:50 a.m. local time,
according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.
The quake was centered in the northeastern part of the Chiba prefecture, with the epicenter at a latitude of 35.9 degrees north and a longitude of 140.6 degrees east, at depth of 40 km.
The earthquake logged at strength 4 on the Japanese seismic intensity scale, which peaks at 7, in some areas in the Ibaraki and Chiba prefectures, and could be felt in Tokyo.
So far, no major damage or injuries were reported, and no tsunami warning has been issued.
