UK provides grant aid of Rs 10.10 billion

Sep 1, 2016- The Government of United Kingdom has agreed to provide a grant assistance of appropriately Rs 10.10 billion to the Government of Nepal for post-earthquake reconstruction in Nepal. 
At a programme organised at Ministry of Finance on Thursday, the project agreement was signed by International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division Chief Baikuntha Aryal and British Department for International Development (DFID) Nepal Head Geil Marzetti.
The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Ministers for Finance Affairs Krishna Bahadur Mahara and British Minister of State for DFID Rudreik Jammes Nugent Stewart.
The programme is to benefit one million people living in earthquake most affected districts, Dhading, Gorkha, Nuwakot and Rasuwa.
The programme aims to build over 400 km rural roads and trails enabling 300,000 people better access to markets and to improve tourism infrastructure in earthquake affected areas.
The programme is also intended to reach over 250,000 people with improved water and sanitation and benefit over 90,000 of the most vulnerable including women and girls. The support includes cash transfers to ensure the poorest and most-affected are not left behind the reconstruction endeavours.
On the occasion, Minister Mahara expressed sincere appreciation to the UK government for the grant assistance and continued support in the socio-economic development endeavours of Nepal. RSS
