Dog refuses to leave coffin of owner killed in Italy earthquake

A dog has been filmed lying beside the coffin of its owner, who was killed when a magnitude 6.2 earthquake struck central Italy.
Video captured by local broadcaster TGI shows the cocker spaniel resting on a gym floor beside the coffin, ahead of a mass funeral for victims of the devastating quake.

The dog’s owner is believed to have lived in the village of Accumoli, near the epicentre of the earthquake.


At least 11 residents of the hilltop village were killed during the disaster, which toppled buildings and caused the village to sink by 20cm, Euro News reports.

Accumoli, together with Amatrice, Arquata del Tronto and Posta were among some of the worst-affected areas.
The earthquake’s last reported death toll was 291.
