A very strong 7.1R came in this morning in North Ascension Island!
The powerful earthquake with a preliminary magnitude of 7.4 has struck the South Atlantic Ocean, centered far northwest of Ascension Island, seismologists say. There was no immediate tsunami warnings triggered by the quake. The quake occurred at a depth of 10 km (6.2 miles), the USGS said. There are no reports of any damage or casualties. The earthquake, which struck at 0430 UTC on Monday, was centered about 964 kilometers (599 miles) north-northwest of Georgetown, which is the chief settlement on Ascension Island. The U.S. Tsunami Warning Center said there was no threat of a tsunami along the U.S. Atlantic or Gulf Coast.
