A strong 5.1R event came this afternoon on Kyushu in Japan. We have warned that Japan has a few days of vulnerability period and we are within it. Yesterday we pointed out that today we should see a Japan event, obvious from the August calendar we posted beginning of month.
Japan Region SST anomaly today...
The southwestern Japanese island of
Kyushu was rocked by a 5.1 magnitude earthquake – close to where
several nuclear power plants are situated – according to the US
Geological Survey.
The power plants have been deemed safe to continue and there are currently no reports of casualties as a result of the tremor.
The quake struck some 10 kilometres beneath the surface with the epicentre of the tremor taking place 17.9 kilometres away from the city of Kumamoto which has a population of more than 680,000 people.
The country’s High Speed Rail service has been suspended in the region as a result, according to JR railway operator.
