Two earthquakes have been reported yesterday (25th July ) in the South Island, with the largest a magnitude 4.7 near Haast.
The second and biggest quake struck 20 kilometres north-west of Haast on the West Coast at 7.42am on Tuesday.
The tremor was 12km deep and was reported felt by 79 people within 20 minutes.
Geonet described it as "strong".
Earlier, a smaller earthquake struck near Queenstown.
The magnitude 3.0 earthquake was reported 5km north-east of Queenstown at 5.42am.
Geonet said the earthquake was 13km deep, and described it as "light".
About 105 people from around the Queenstown region reported feeling the quake within an hour.
