CARDINGTON, UNITED KINGDOM —
The Airlander 10, currently the world's largest aircraft, is able to stay airborne for five days and can land on all terrains, including water, sand and ice.
The new aircraft was unveiled Monday in the United Kingdom by manufacturer Hybrid Air Vehicles.
Combining the best qualities of airplanes, helicopters and airships, the Airlander 10 can be used for a number of roles including military surveillance, communications, logistics and disaster relief as well as cargo and passenger flights.
Stephen McGlennan, the CEO of Hybrid Air Vehicles says disaster relief is one of its most amazing qualities, "so the most amazing thing it can do from the start is to help in disasters. So if there is an emergency such as a tsunami or an earthquake this is the sort of thing that can come in and bring water and equipment and food to people."
Further tests are needed before the Airlander 10 takes its first flight later this year.
