GOOD NEWS! Monster Asteroids aren't about to hit the Earth!
Despite this screaming, hysterical headline from the British tabloid The Daily Express: "TWO monster asteroids - one of which nearly killed woman - heading this way right NOW," there's nothing to worry about, said a NASA spokesman.
"The two larger asteroids mentioned do indeed exist and are on our 'close approach' list, but they are in well-known orbits and will pass several millions of miles distant, many times the distance to the moon," said NASA spokesman Dwayne C. Brown.
The asteroids in the Express story are supposedly going to "skim by" the Earth on Tuesday (Dec. 29) and on Jan. 22.
The Express story also claims that a previous pass of the January asteroid "was responsible for sending the first recorded event of a meteor crashing to Earth which hit and injured a human" back in 1954.
"The part about meteorites coming from these objects is totally false," Brown said. "Meteor 'storms' originate from passing comets. [There is] no evidence any meteorite originates from these asteroids," he added.
Looking at the other "science"-related stories on that Express page, which feature items about UFOs, mystery fireballs and flat Earth believers, it seems one could spend plenty of time debunking their stories....
