Ministry of Public Health is advised to take immediate measures for treating the injured people, Ghani said in a message published by the Presidential Palace. "The people should offer special prayers giving thanks", said the statement. Nevertheless, officials of both countries are predicting that the death toll will continue to rise as rescue efforts continue. Now, landslides and falling rocks have blocked the few existing roads. Pakistani officials were unable to reach authorities in the remote district of Kohistan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province for a second day to see how its population of almost half a million people had fared. It also suffers from floods, snowstorms and mudslides. The quake was centered deep beneath the mountains in a region of Afghanistan bordering Pakistan. "The immediate concern is to provide as much relief as possible to these areas, and to ensure the safety and well-being of the survivors of this tragedy", she said. The landslides were also hampering rescue attempts in a few areas, and roads were being cleared to ease access. People were reported to be running out of food in many remote areas, with children and elderly people helping to dig through piles of rubble for survivors as they waited for aid to arrive. "There was rain yesterday and no one came to help us", said Jamil Khan, a 24-year-old quake victim in Shangla, one of the worst hit districts of Pakistan's northwestern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Pakistani prime minister Nawaz Sharif visited the north-western city of Peshawar to attend a briefing on quake damages. Aid agencies say help is not getting through to the victims of Monday's quake in northern Afghanistan because of security concerns. "Government's efforts are underway to assess the damages caused by the quake". At least 12 school girls were killed in stampede as they tried to get out of their building in Taloqan, just west of Badakhshan province. Sonatullah Taimor, a spokesman for the governor of Takhar province, said so far authorities had recorded 14 people dead there - including the schoolgirls. Under the package, Rs 600,000 will be given to the family of each deceased and Rs 100,000 to each injured person. Asim Bajwa, spokesperson of Pakistan Army's media wing, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), said that a special C-130 cargo plane with seven tons of ration, 2,500 ready meals, additional medical teams, 1,000 tents and blankets, was flying in KPK on Tuesday.
