Earthquake 5.4M Rocks Northern Colombia

A 5.4M earthquake rocked Northern Colombia in the early morning of October 14, 2015. The temblor followed a 5.9 quake that shook a Russian city approximately an hour earlier. This was the first quake to hit Colombia this month. Some might remember the rather powerful 6.2M quake that hit Piedecuesta, Santander, Colombia seven months ago.

According to Earthquake-Report.com, one person in Medellin, Colombia, stated, “I live on the 14th floor of an apartment building around 2:50a.m., my bed shook and I heard jingling. I walked to the living room and the ceiling lamps were swaying.”

The USGS reports that the quake hit: 9km (6mi) SSE of San Alberto, Colombia, 36km (22mi) NNE of Sabana de Torres, Colombia
46km (29mi) SSW of Abrego, Colombia and 61km (38mi) S of Ocana, Colombia.

The impact of this seismic event to the outer lying cites is not yet known. But people in the area are responding to the media.

Two other Medellin residents have made statements. One person states, “I was sleeping… It woke me up! Another Colombian said, “It wakes us up, and I felt other people talking.”

Reports from Volcanodiscovery.com say that the some people felt severe shaking while others say the shaking was light.

While this report was being written another rather large 5.9 earthquake hit east of the Kuril Islands.
